Joshua Newnam, a 1-year veteran assigned to the Illinois State Police Tollway District, was found injured in a field near the intersection of Huntley Road and Boyer Road, near Carpentersville, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Juan Valenzuela. Newnam was initially taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin and later taken by helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Valenzeula said. The trooper’s condition Tuesday night was not being released, he said. State Police investigators and personnel from Crime Scene Services investigated the field where Newnam was found this afternoon. Preliminary indications are that the trooper’s wound was self-inflicted, Valenzeula said. — Robert Mitchum
