DJ Tone
Toni affectionately called “Tone” has been a DJ professionally just
a few short years however if her peers had to comment on her skills
she was “born” a DJ with a God-given talent that takes most DJs
years to acquire. DJ Tone got her start if you will in 2007 from
her father also a DJ and proprietor of Stanley Music Services.
Beginning as an assistant & “roadie” setting up and breaking
down equipment for private functions, weddings and family events
as well as occasionally covering the music during breaks.
It is with this start that Toni got bit by the “bug” and became DJ
Tone. She has the internal drive and dedication to her newly
acquired “hobby” as she so often refers to more than some DJs that
have been in the business their whole lives. Spring of 2009, Toni
set a personal goal to acquire tighter mixing and blending skills.
After reaching out to a few DJs she knew from the skating
community (to which she avidly shows off her skate skills as a
member & VP of JB Skate Crew “JB Dymez”) for assistance in
reaching her goal. Although Toni was shunned away by the DJs
only one stepped up to assist her. DJ Tone began a mentoring/
student relationship with Timothy DJ “T-Mac” Williams. This is just the connection that DJ Tone needed. In her
tutoring relationship not only did she excel quickly in reaching her goal but has done so with keeping up with the DJ
industry standard. She is now able mix and blend via the aide of Rane mixing program Serato, a very popular and
necessary program used by DJs.
2009 proved to be the “Year of DJ Tone” with all of her personal success and heartfelt determination and dedication to
her chosen craft, she began to guest appear as a DJ in a few of the local skating rinks with her Teacher/Mentor
DJ T-Mac at MLK Entertainment Center and “The Rink” with DJs DMC, CJ, Young Shadow, T-Rell & Joe both in
the Chicagoland area.
DJ Tone has shown how appreciative she is of all the opportunities she has been given to better her craft. She has
expressed publicly that she owes a lot of her progress to her teacher/mentor DJ T-Mac and her newly acquires mentor
Lesley “DJ LT” Taylor of ‘Sunshine Promotions, who helps her stay grounded, focused and keep her perspective in the
“industry” being the lone female DJ in the skate community in the Midwest as we know of.
Cataloging her successes in such a short time, DJ Tone has shed her “student” persona and donned a professional
undertone that has been waiting to burst on the scenes. It is with this success that she has gained a residency as the
only female DJ at Lynwood Skate Center in Lynwood, IL, which has not prevented her from continuously booking
private events as a “solo” DJ and along side her father with Stanley Music Services, all while maintaining a family
and raising 2 children.
DJ Tone’s biggest accomplishment to date is being inducted as 1st Lady of Chicago’s Own “Blok Club” DJs,
under the direction of Producer and Recording Artist Thomas “DJ Slugo” Kendricks. DJ Tone publicly says that she
has so much more to learn and is willing and open to all opportunities that come her way. She is very adamant about
learning to spin the different genres of music. At the current time she spins R&B, Hip Hop & Funk she is eagerly
awaiting to add House, Reggae & Disco to that repertoire. In addition to that DJ Tone’s skills has invaded the
“super highway”. She has 3 successful and very interactive internet radio shows: Chicago Skate Radio, Manish
Mondays Nights & Friday Nights w/DJ Tone on Ustream.tv. She has several followers & over 100+ listeners
consistently tuning weekly getting their “virtual” skate on.
With DJ Tone’s fire to strive for the seemingly unattainable, given time she will be a household name and a force to be
reckoned with not just as a DJ but as a person. She will be an inspiration to all young ladies that have a passion for
what some consider an unconventional position for women.
