He trained for an admirable ten years, developing a distinct passion for Jazz. Soon after the sound of Hip Hop provoked him to start his foray into DJ'ing and production. Then came house as Satoshi became fascinated by the early Chicago mix-tapes he was hearing. A Japanese cosmetic company asked Satoshi to produce a track for their forthcoming promo parties where the legendary DJ Frankie Knuckles was performing. Knuckles saw the potential in Satoshi's music and asked if he was interested in collaborating. The final result of their partnership was "Tears", a defining moment in vocal house and a song now commonly regarded as an all time classic. Satoshi soon took the leap and moved to New York. Since his seminal hit "Tears" back in 1989, he has gone on to become a major part of the acclaimed Def Mix crew. Although Satoshi's beginnings were based on his musicianship as a classically trained musician, he used his talents in the early years of his career to write, program and produce some of the biggest classic house records of our time. Satoshi also has remixed and worked with the likes of Photek, Kosheen, Simply Red, David Bowie, U2 and Mariah Carey, just to name a few. Satoshi's debut solo album was 2000s massive Full Lick. The album featured the outstanding Satoshi anthem 'Love In Traffic' with Kelli Ali (ex-Sneaker Pimps) on vocals. The track was picked up by John Digweed for his Global Underground mix and remains a progressive classic to this day. The album also included 'Darkness' featuring veteran house vocalist Robert Owens, and 'Inspired' featuring Diane Charlamagne. In 2001, Satoshi Tomiie launched his own label "SAW.RECORDINGS". It was Satoshi's desire to create a platform from which he would be able to showcase ideas and creativity that are more experimental. SAW's first single release "Paranoize" by Bipath (A collaboration work with Stephane K.) caused major excitement from DJ's worldwide. If SAW.RECORDINGS is an example of the direction that Satoshi is heading in, he is acknowledging the changes in the dance music scene, thus shifting what House music is. House music never stops evolving and expanding its borders and Satoshi Tomiie is in the forefront of this movement. Satoshi's Saw Recordings label has carved out a niche and has earned a formidable reputation for credible club grooves. Taking its name from a sound wave, the company has to date unleashed over 60 singles along with 4 albums including Chab's sublime variety of rock, electro and house tracks, SLOK, Guy Gerber, Audiofly X, Jim Rivers, Nick Chacona, Nathan Fake, Lexicon Avenue and Satoshi's own mix compilations ES and ES-B. When Satoshi was invited by compilation kings Global Underground to contribute a mix to their NuBreed series, it was a great honor. Satoshi is the first American based DJ to be asked to record a NuBreed album which is known for only working with the leading cutting edge DJ's. Satoshi's album remains the fastest and highest selling NuBreed to date. Receiving the highest honor as a DJ, in 2001 Satoshi Tomiie was voted by the public into the #30 spot of the World's Top 100 DJ List and Best Tech House DJ Ibiza DJ Award. Satoshi is also finding International recognition now as a Label owner besides his proven talents as a DJ, Producer / Artist and Musician. The last few years have been all about DJing for Satoshi. This Japanese New Yorker has been virtually everywhere you can think of in recent years, in March 05 Tomiie was also voted Americas ..15 favorite DJ in the world by the premier Electronic magazine BPM. He only spins in his home city (Tokyo) every six months or so; the rest of the time he's traveling, using the Big Apple as a second home which also serves as a handy midpoint between Asia, South America and Europe - where a lot of his gigs are. In 2006, Satoshi was chosen to mix the first album of Renaissance's new series 3D. The 3 CD series will include the following discs: Club, Home, and Studio. This is a step above any ordinary compilation as it will offer a 3-dimensional view into Satoshi's musical life spread across the three discs. The 'Club' disc will be a straight-up reflection of the sets he is currently playing in clubs. Disc 2 'Studio' disc will feature a selection of his original productions and remixes. Disc 3 will be 'Home', a selection of tracks; mixed or unmixed that Satoshi listens to in his downtime and tracks that has influenced him over the years. Following up with the releasing of successful 'Masters' series on Renaissance and releasing of his own singles 'Glow' in 2007 as well as 'Solar Wind' in 2008 on SAW.RECORDINGS, Satoshi is now preparing another album planned to be released late 2008 for Renaissance. The collaboration with Audiofly, Opus Ink's 2nd single is also in the pipeline. Although Satoshi is quiet and unassuming; he gets on with the job of playing and producing quality underground dance music. HECTOR ROMERO BIO: When I asked him the perennial question journalists ask DJ’s about their style, Hector Romero replied: “I play the best of all genres of dance music.” Quite the dibs, but Hector’s got the credentials to back it up. 2006 begins with Hector Romero’s first international mix CD release, “Pacha Winter Sessions”. The double CD hits the streets Jan ’06 in many countries around the world. It includes Hector Romero on Disc one and Spain’s Juan Diaz on Disc two. "When I was originally asked by Danny Whittle at Pacha Ibiza to mix Disc one of the Pacha Winter album I felt flattered and honored.” An honor that is helping to solidify, Romero’s international persona, and opening doors into new countries like Morocco and Switzerland with a full world tour in the stars for this year. Since his beginnings as thirteen-year-old DJ wunderkind “Baby Hec” Romero back in 1983, a growing reputation landed him at La Mirage, the hottest uptown Latin club at the time. As the New York City house music renaissance ensued, Hector found himself at the helm of legendary dance floors Save the Robots, The Red Zone (where he met David Morales), Palladium and Roxy. Hector admits “I have not stopped DJ’ing once in my career.” Hector has worked as an employee for Def Mix for ten years. He has proven to be quite the workhorse, keeping his finger quick on the pulse of the company’s daily business operations. Known for their house clout, Def Mix broadened their horizons with SAW Recordings, the brainchild co-run by owner Satoshi Tomiie and partner Label Manager Hector Romero. Known first and foremost for an innovative approach to the house sound, SAW’s output have all the crucial elements to them. Hector explains: “Everything’s got to be funky with your baseline, good vocals, catchy hooks, very important stuff that’s going to stand the test of time.” The highly touted compilation, Undulation 1 (mixed by Satoshi & Hector) saw a highly touted 2003-4 world tour. As a crucial member of the Def Mix camp, Hector’s plan for the future is to grow as an executive for the SAW label. “Since I don’t remix or produce, being a business person Monday through Friday is my love and passion,” he expounds. Romero distinguishes the weekend as a time to take his A&R duties abroad: “I take everything we’ve signed, the music that I’ve been sent, on the road and have a good time. Just stepping it up another level and continuing to influence people.” Whether he’s rocking it out at Pacha, Ibiza or in Greece, UK, France, Spain, Italy, USA or Canada, Hector works hard at his craft, making sure clubbers have a good time. What sets Romero apart from the rest, his ability to reach out to the masses, makes him a favorite with promoters and clubbers alike: “[Promoters] love it when people go to the gigs and smile, and have a good time with their customers. I love it. It’s work, but it’s also good fun.” ...

The DJs who flourish in this demanding environment go on to become folk heroes, not only in New York, but all over the world (see Larry Levan, Danny Tenaglia, Junior Vasquez). DJ Boris started his ascension to these ranks in 2004, when the native of St. Petersburg, Russia took up residence at New York super club Crobar. It was the culmination of years of workhorse gigging at almost every club across the Big Apple. But it was more than that too: It was a movement that has shown no signs of fading. Boris (birth name: Boris Inzhin) started moonlighting as a DJ while taking classes at the Institute Of Audio Research in New York. With a metronomic mixing ability and a penchant for expansive, groove-based power-house music, the jock quickly found work both in DJ and production booths, playing at clubs like Exit, and Roxy, and remixing artists like Janet Jackson, Jewel and Gloria Estefan. In 2002, his mix of Pink’s “Get This Party Started” hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot Club Play chart. His relentless approach to bring his cult of followers the best sound and experience possible has taken his production to even greater heights. Powerhouse industry labels like *69 Records, and Stereo Productions have wasted no time in signing Boris projects to their labels. Dancefloor missiles like "Automatic," "Everybody Tweakin'," "Lights Go Out," and Lisa Pure's "Movin On" have been embraced by a culture of beat aficionados, in and out of the many clubs DJ Boris has grown to call home. And if home is where your heart is then Boris must be endowed with a heart the size of North America. His movement has rewarded him with residencies in every major city. Now a regular on the city’s club circuit, the name of Boris started to become associated with unapologetically massive music: big drums, big riffs, huge build-ups and lots of energy. Propelled by the promise of a great party experience and by a growing affection for the approachable DJ and his humble manner, his crowd swelled. By the time Boris debuted at mega club Crobar in May 2004, his faithful numbered in the thousands, united under a spontaneously created banner: “Believe in Boris.” Boys stamped it on their T-shirts in masking tape, girls Sharpied it on their flesh, and eventually Crobar flashed it on their video screens: A battle cry for a clubber’s revolution. While at Crobar, Boris set the 30,000-square-foot club’s attendance record (a swinging-from-the-rafters 5,400), released his first mixed compilation (aptly titled “Believe”), and started to gig regularly outside of NYC, in markets like Miami, and Las Vegas. In 2006, when it became apparent that Crobar would close, Boris uprooted and moved his crowd 20 blocks north to Pacha New York, the first North American branch of the fabled European club brand, without missing a beat. He is still a Pacha resident. Boris’ faithful service to the clubbers of New York has been rewarded with two Club World Award “Best Resident DJ” nominations (one while at Crobar, and one while at Pacha), a DJ Times cover story, a top 5 finish in the national America’s Best DJ fan poll, and a new residency at super club Space in Miami. Add this to the already accomplished residencies he holds at Rise in Boston, Therapy in Rhode Island, as well as his regular appearances at Ruby Skye in San Francisco, 960 in Connecticut, Deko Lounge in New Jersey. He’s also become one of the reigning kings of Winter Music Conference week, throwing massive pool parties by day and after-hours marathons by night for thousands of fans. The spoils of success have not halted his enthusiastic work ethic either. His ongoing pursuit to creatively, and musically express himself to those who adore him, has no doubtedly outgrown our own country's limited borders. With his global campaign as New York's premiere DJ underway, believers can be found from all corners of the planet. Venezuala, Colombia, Marrakech, Barcelona, Madrid, Ibizia, London, Montreal, Mexico, and Toronto have all been blessed with his energetically extreme beat orchestration. Boris and his team are currently planning the release of his fourth mixed compilation, and a series of European, and South American dates to compliment his tremendous ability in the studio. ...

7/4 – Blake Jarrell 7-Hour Extended Set @ Vision Nightclub – Chicago

| BLAKE JARRELL | The past  two years have brought this extraordinary young artist a plethora of serious achievements.  From his ongoing summer residency at the legendary Amnesia club in Ibiza, to a 40 country world tour to complement his successful 2-disc DJ mixed compilation for the Armada Dancefloor Sessions series.  Blake Jarrell is one of the fastest rising stars in the dance music industry today. It is hard to believe that just a few years ago Blake’s fortunes we’re anything but good.  Blake arrived in his adopted hometown of Chicago in 2005 shortly after packing up all his belongings and fleeing the Mississippi Delta from the menace of Hurricane Katrina.  The Windy City’s vibrant electronic music community embraced Blake’s natural fan making ability and he was making waves in no time. Blake quickly rose through the ranks of local jocks and a big break was just ahead.  Some high profile bookings brought on a chance meeting with Armada Music’s head aficionado Armin Van Buuren.  After listening to a few of his original productions, Armin contacted Blake and soon after he joined the Armada artist roster.  Since that time Armin has invited Blake on several of his world tours as an exclusive special guest performer.  Finally, Blake cemented his relationship with Armada Music when he joined a select group of international stars for full summer residencies at Armada’s weekly shindig at Amnesia in Ibiza in 2007 and 2008. Battle tested indeed, after traveling to over 90 cities, the New Orleans kid turned Chicago hometown heavyweight remains busy and is looking to climb further up the DJ charts with an intense schedule of original productions and remixes.  Blake’s studio skills are what earned him an undisputed reputation and his creativity is enjoyed and heavily supported by Markus Schulz, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong, Matthew Dekay, John Digweed, Paul Oakenfold and of course Armin Van Buuren. Blake recalls his 2008 hit Punta del Este and his remix of Moussa Clark’s She Wants Him as just some of the highlights of his young career.  The former was featured on Armin Van Buuren’s acclaimed A State of Trance 2008 compilation, and the latter held the #1 position on Beatport’s trance charts for several weeks. It is this blistering pace of success that has kept Blake grounded which explains his dedication to expanding his monthly radio show Concentrate.  The show continues to evolve and reach new audiences by featuring signature mix sets from Blake Jarrell and special international guests.  He believes in his fans immensely and works tirelessly to give back to the people that have supported him and his records. Blake is set to kick off 2009 with an international tour in the better part of February in support of his upcoming project for Armada Music.  A unique compilation that will feature some of Blake’s original work as well as high profile remixes.  The album will debut at the Winter Music Conference in Miami at the end of March with a CD release on Armada Music scheduled shortly after.  The tour will see Blake off to Riga, Stockholm, Helsinki, Vancouver, Toronto, Miami, Boracay, and San Francisco, among others.  Blake Jarrell sets the bar awfully high for aspiring young artists from Chicago, New Orleans and beyond, but it is his perseverance, dedication, hard work, and most of all passion for his craft that sees him through to the top and across the world. Since everyone in his family was in some way involved with music, it was no surprise when John started making his own. By playing around with his fathers Atari computer, John learned the basics and after several changes in setup he finally found his sound. First demo went out at the age of 15 without any luck, but the second demo did pretty good. With a track out on Route 33 and his first 12″ out on Deep4life, John was heading for the big league. After "Music So Sweet" the releases kept coming, and Johns first label was born together with cousin Jesper. As Hugg & Pepp, the cousins have established a worldknown superduo. So the releases got more and more and John started to become quite a well known producer. By starting the label Pickadoll for the Plantage 13 labelmanagement, John finally had his own imprint. And what an imprint. With artists like Özgur Can, Sebastien Leger, Dada Life, Zoo Brazil, Robbie Rivera, Laidback Luke etc showing up on the label, John Dahlbäcks little baby Pickadoll has grown enormous. ...
